The Institute of Geography with its five professors covers a broad academic spectrum ranging from climate research to urban geography. More than 700 students are currently enrolled in our study programmes.
The subject of geography has been taught since the University of Bremen was established in 1971. What began as one focus of the former study programme ‘labour studies/politics’ has been developed into independent teacher training programmes and into a diploma programme in geography later in the early 1980s. In 2007 the Institute of Geography was one of the first in Germany to introduce a consecutive bachelor and master structure. Today, five professors, several lecturers and a number of scientific staff members represent research and teaching at the Institute of Geography..
