The Institute of Geography with its five professors covers a broad academic spectrum ranging from climate research to urban geography. More than 700 students are currently enrolled on our study programs.

The subject of geography has been taught at the University of Bremen since it was founded in 1971. What began as one focus of the former study program ‘labor studies/politics’ has been developed into independent teacher training programs and into a Diplom program in geography later in the early 1980s. In 2007, the Institute of Geography was one of the first in Germany to introduce a consecutive bachelor and master structure. Today, five professors, several mid-level faculty and a number of research assistants represent research and teaching at the Institute of Geography.
